My husband and I have been lusting over the Ekornes brand of leather reclining chairs for several years. Since individual chairs cost well over $1000 each (and some are over $2500 each!), we have put off making that purchase. But when our leather sofa and loveseat turned 15 years old, we decided it was time to bite the bullet when our local retailer of Ekornes products had a big sale.

Even though our two chairs and ottomans were at the lower end of the quality level in the Ekernes line, we still paid $995 per chair. This stressless chair and ottoman are covered with a Batick leather, which is a leather with a protective layer of lacquer added so that spills are much easier to deal with. It's easier to clean, and cheaper in price, the leather isn't as soft and supple as the high end Royalin line of leather.

The Stressless collection is manufactured in Norway, and is Scandanavia's largest furniture manufacturer. Ekornes has sold more than 5 million Stressless chairs since 1971. The company tag line is Stressless: The Innovators of Comfort. Unlike bulky recliners made by Lazy Boy and other manufacturers, the Ekornes chairs are small, yet provide even more comfort and support. The chairs have a stained teak base, and the footrest also slides back and forth along it's matching teak base. The chairs come with a round comfort table that swivels to the side or it can be moved closer to you, it can be mounted on either the right or left side of the chair, and can be removed if you don't like it. The chairs have two knobs on either side that allow you to tighten the tension so that the chair will recline easily or harder. It will lay back quite far or sit straight upright. The chairs also swivel to a complete 360 degrees.

Our Experience

These chairs are so comfortable, I can't even begin to put it into words. You really have to experience this luxury for yourself! The tubular frame of these Stressless recliners give you absolute comfort. No matter what position you have it in, the furniture automatically follows your movements so you don't have to keep altering it's position for that ideal level of support and comfort.

The store had a model of the interior workings of a Ekornes Stressless chair, and we saw firsthand how when the chair back comes to an upright position, the bars in the lumbar area automatically protrude to give you that needed support in the small of the back. As the chair reclined, the lumbar area flattened out a bit, so it's self adjusting.

Ekernes guarantees their internal mechanisms for 10 years after purchase. The metal frame, metal springs, and gliding system are all covered under the warranty. The Stressless chairs came with Leather Master Leather Protection Cream, which is a joy to use. It smells wonderful and the leather does not have to be buffed after wiping it down.

We have a medium sized living room, but it contains quite a few pieces of furniture. Two normal sized recliners were out of the question for the space we had, and my husband and I absolutely love our Ekornes Stressless chairs. While these come in a variety of colors, we chose the darker hunter green, as our new Natuzzi sofa is a pistachio green color. My husband is sleeping in his as I type this review, that's how comfy they are! I can't say enough about the Ekornes Stressless reclining chairs.

Display cut flowers in buckets or watering cans. Bring wooden garden shelving (with slats) into the house and use it for displaying houseplants or other objects. Even an old window frame has a place in the garden-style home. This can be used for holding pictures or attach hooks and hang small items on it. Don’t throw out that old wooden ladder. Use it as an interesting quilt rack instead. Small step stools can hold plants or books. There are numerous ways that you can use garden furniture and other accessories in the home. The best advice I could possibly give is to just use your imagination and be creative. There’s no better way to express your passion for gardening or nature than to fill your home décor with lots of garden style.
